I currently own a White Lightning Ultra 1200 I got from eBay, and am looking at just taking the plunge and buying an Einstein with my tax rebate. I was curious if I get the Cyber Commander with the Einstein, can it also trigger my Ultra 1200? Or is that too old for it to be compatible.

They are perfectly compatible. Any of our lights with a phone jack can be used with Cyber Commander. You will need a CSR+ or CSRB+ for each light to control the Ultras: http://www.paulcbuff.com/csrplus.php and a CSXCV for Einstein: http://www.paulcbuff.com/csxcv.php

Also, while the Cyber Commander can be used on camera as a trigger, many people like to have a basic CST on camera for triggering, and the Cyber Commander off camera for convenient metering and control.

Thanks for the quick response! Looking through the CC line it doesn't seem there's a hotshoe receiver... are there any plans to expand to this in the future? I'd like to be able to use my smaller flashes for hairlights or something.

We do not have an integrated hotshoe in our receivers, and no plans to make one (while convenient, it adds an additional point of flex when mounting a flash to a stand). You can connect the receivers to the PC port of your flash if it has one with the included cord(s). If your flash does not have a PC connector, we do offer a speedlite foot adapter that you can use to connect the receiver to the flash.

Thank you for your quick replies... so I just got my tax return and I'm about to make my purchase. I currently have my WL Ultra 1200 and am going to purchase an Einstein with Cyber Commander, Einstein Transceiver, and the CS Receiver Plus (for the Ultra 1200). This will allow me to basically control my WL strobe identically to the Einstein, correct?

Also I'm curious... why still a fuse in the Einstein instead of a breaker?

Pretty much. The major controls are there, like output control is available for both the model lamp and flash output (independently). While there is a power on/off function available for the E640, the WL1200 will only go into a minimum power mode, since there is a physical on/off switch. Recycle indicators are not controllable like they are on the E640. Also, there is some minor programming for the CS+ receivers that is not needed for the E640.

As for the fuse, there is a complex reasoning for this, but it boils down to reasons related to universal voltage.
