Just to complete my prior post, a trip to Lowes and $0.68 later I now have 4 nuts that fit on the PLM speedring bolt. Both speedrings now fit nicely into a small box with the shafts removed and it's a simple matter to screw them in tot he permanently attached bolts when needed. Much less likely to get bent or broken carrying them disassembled.

Makes carrying and storage much better.

Hopefully I'll have time tonight to actually shoot with them.

Fred

Do you have pictures of how you set it up?

Robert

I'll try to shoot some over the weekend, but it should be easy to visualize:

Insert the bolt that came with the PLM thru one of the supplied washers.
Then insert the bolt through the hole in the speedring, with the threads facing out.
Put the second supplied washer over the threads.
Screw the newly purchased nut onto the threads, tightening the entire assembly.
When you want to use the PLM, screw the aluminum extension arm onto the exposed bolt.
When you are done, unscrew the extension, leaving the bolt screwed to the speedring.

No loose parts to lose, no tools required on the shoot.

OK! My bad: I called and verified when I first ordered...Oct 3rd...2 days before you did!

I did this to all three of my PLM cages when I received them months ago:

I received my 86" silver plm v2 and find it somewhat too specular for my tastes, and prefer the softer silver of the plm v1. Is there any chance of offering a version in the softer silver? I realize there would be a trade off in efficiency.

Thanks, Fred. I see what you did now. It would make set up much quicker.

There is very little difference in the specularity of the V1 and V2 fabrics. V2 produces more even coverage and better shadow structure than V1 or the knock offs.

Dave - perfect. I couldn't have shot it better, and your one picture explains all of my words so much better.

Fred: what size nuts did you end up using?

Just got my PLM V2s, but I'm missing the speedring bolts on both of them :-( I'll let the tech support folks now..

the bolts are 5/16-24, 1" long. I will also make customer service aware of this omission.

What TS said, 5/16-24. Note the -24, which is a finer thread than normal. The bins were full of 5/16-10 (or 12?), you need the -24.
