I am planning to order some wheels for LS3900 stand, I just don't see any holes in the stand legs into which the casters can be screwed. Just to confirm, the caster wheels work without screwing into the legs?

Yes, they work much like the stand mounts would on the lights mounting to the top stud. They tighten to the stand, but not screw through the stand.

What is the diameter of the LS3900 stand legs?

Right at an inch, or 25mm.
