While I'm waiting patiently for my PLM's I was wondering if you could tell me the ID of the speed ring.
It would be nice to be able to use it centered with my Norman LH2400 heads.

Any thoughts?

The cages are availble in the Paul C Buff/Balcar mount or Elinchrom mount. They are specifically made for the PLM.

Ok, I understand that - but with a possible modification, might I "fit" them to a Norman?

In addition, It appears that I must choose center or off-center for the Front Diffusion Fabric before shipping. Hummmm.

There is no on-center/off-center diffuser fabrics There is only one . . . it fits either and also fits PLM™ V1.

By ID, do you mean inner diameter? If so, which speedring?

Well, I'm at a disadvantage as I own neither Elinchrom or Buff lights.
From what I have researched it looks like the Elinchrom might have a circular ring used to attach to the head. If it's close to the Norman I can pop a couple of holes in the cage, perhaps shim it and be in business - this is total speculation on my part - I just want to obtain the best quality of light that the PLM2 can deliver. It seems sad to undue all your superb engineering by placing the head off center. Photographers aren't anal - naw!

This is what the PLM V2 Elinchrom cage looks like:



Inside diameter of the Elinchrom mounting ring is 117mm. Outside diameter is 139mm.

I think if I were you, I'd get one of these speed ring inserts:

separate the tripod legs of the PLM cage from the Elinchrom (or AB) mount,
drill 3 holes near the perimeter of the Norman speed ring insert, and bolt the PLM tripod to that. The flange of the Norman insert would have to be bent up a bit to match the angle of the tripod legs and the hub might need to be bent a bit as well.

I think this adaptation should be easy to do.
