I recently bought a Vagabond mini for my Profoto Compact 600R kit. When plugged into the VAgabond, the strobes are intermittent when triggered by the pocketwizard. If I hit the test button on the back of the flash, they strobe every time. When plugged in to the wall outlet, the transmitter works perfectly, strobes every time. What would cause the transmitter to work intermittent when plugged into the Vagabond but not the wall outlet?

Likely, the the drop in Voltage during the Vagabond recycle crashes the processor in the reciever, and it resets. I'm not sure if the unit resets to its previous setting, only after some time; or if it resets to a default setting, that is different than the setting in use.

Would the Vagabond Extreme Lithium be a better choice?

Better? Yes, but we cannot confirm that it will be better enough. We have Compacts to test, but not the R version to test that function.

I found a fix. I bought an additional PocketWizard Plus ii and connected it directly to the Profoto. This worked like a charm. I have the main tranciever on the camera hotshoe, and the other directly to the flash. The light triggers as expected.
