I've used my vagabond without issue for the past two years. I've also had no difficulties with the Cyber Commander while using lights plugged into a wall outlet. I recently tried using them together on a location shoot, with less than stellar results.

After plugging in the RJ-11 cable and powering on the light, the flash started firing rapidly. It stopped after a moment, but the setup parameters from the CC were being ignored, and the light would randomly.

Fearing for the safety of the lights, I abandoned the CC and did the shoot using my CyberSync transmitter instead. Worked with no problem. I've also since used the CC indoors with no issue. Is there something I'm missing on getting the Cyber Commander and Vagabond to play well together?

Considering the vintage of that inverter and the sympoms described, it sounds like a simple modification to the ground is in order. This would be a free repair and return shipping would also be covered within the U.S. (though shipping to us is not covered). If that is the only issue with the unit, you can send only the inverter back if you wish, however, you will want to make sure the battery is fully charged before you do so.
