Post subject:  Question on AlienBees B1600 in the last 7-8 years..

I recently picked up a few used B1600's and was told they're about 7 years old...

This raised concern because I did not realize how old they were before the purchase and I was told they were hardly used but come on, 7 year old lights? there's definitely going to be wear and you can't trust in how often they were used at all.

So basically they're on their way to me and I'm just hoping I won't be replacing a ton of parts. My question is, has production changed the past 7+ years? are they typically the same as what I would purchase today without the obvious warranties, some accessories and the usage? Anything to look out for?

Thanks for any help! I'm very anxious and if they don't check out, I'm sending them back and definitely purchasing brand new lights despite how much I saved.

We have changed flash tubes and model lamps, however, there is not a substantial enough advantage for the new ones to worry about the exchange. Current model lamps are 150W vs the 100W they shipped with (both items can be purchased seperately). The stand mount is also slightly different. Virtually all repairs would be $40, including shipping back to U.S. addresses (this is subject to inspection of the light, and does not include consumables like tubes and model lamps).

Thank you for the quick reply!

One more question just to clarify, will the newer flashtubes fit properly into the slightly older model as well?

yes, the heads are the same, but the tubes are a bigger diameter. They will give you slightly faster flash durations.
