I plugged in my VB2 tonight for charging - I am diligent with the at least once a month charge for 10 hours, and every time after I use it. After a very short time, maybe a couple of minutes, the fan turned on full blast. This has never happened before. I have heard a bit of a whine or hissing in the past, but I understand this is normal. After a while of disconcertment about the fan running I unplugged the charge cable and plugged it back in again. Not long after the fan kicked in again. A bit after this I decided to move it out into the garage for the night as I've read about smoke pouring out of them on occasion. At this point the fan wasn't running at full speed. When I unplugged it it spun up to full speed for a moment, then all was quiet. When I left it out in the garage the fan had not started up. Is it normal for the fan to run while charging? Thanks very much. |

Sounds normal to me. Mine did the same thing, fan ran for the first few minutes. And the high frequency whine was always audible (in a quiet room), regardless of fan status. |

Thanks - your fan eventually shut itself off though? I've never had the fan turn on on me while charging - is there some sort of heat sensor in the unit? |

I charge my battery in the garage. When it's hot, the fan runs a lot. It also seems to make a difference when the battery is used heavily used befor charging. Mine will also cycle on and off as it charges. It's over a year old and never had a problem. |

The inverter does have a thermostatically controlled fan. It will ramp up at first, then it may or may not shut off soon following (depending on temp). Charging will create heat, the deeper the discharge, the more the charger has to work, the more heat it will create. Also, as batteries sulfate, they can get hot when charging, which will keep the fan on. The main thing is to be sure the battery and/or inverter are not super hot to the touch. |
