Probably correct. One must remember the flash meter is only a small portion of the $179.95 CC so it's a stretch for people to expect it to do everything a $500+ dedicated flash/exposure meter can, in addition to the immense capability CC provides.

I use Sekonic L-758DR meter combined with CST to check ambient, flash and mix lighting. I have mounted a hot shoe with PC terminal wire in the bottom of meter's 1/4 screw socket to trigger CST. Lights are controlled and all adjustments are made using CC. Carrying multiple tools is a hassle but don't we call ourselves professional to perform with precision?

I believe some of the Sekonic meters can break down the total exposure such that it gives you the percentage being contributed by strobes.

I've been using my ancient Minolta Flash Meter V to do just that for about 15 years. I find 'percentage of flash light' more intuitive when calculating flash fill for portrait lighting outdoors.

Hey Paul,
Just got my CC + transceivers for my Einsteins and I'm very impressed. An incredible amount of functionality.

So let's say that I have a CC + Einstein setup and I want to take ambient + flash readings. I have a Sekonic L-758DR that I use for this. My question would be: What is the recommended way for having an external flash meter trigger the CC? The only thing that comes to mind is to find a long PC-to-submini cable that plugs between my Sekonic meter and the jack on the side of the CC. Am I missing an easier way? Any chance of you guys making a radio module for Sekonic meters that would allow triggering the CC wirelessly (ala RT-32/RT-32CTL)? :)

The meter would not need to trigger the CC, per se. It would need to trigger the recievers. First, the CC has an accurate lightmeter built in, which is the basis for many of the functions of the CC. However, if you choose to use another meter, you can use a CST or the CC in your hand to "test" the lights, while your meter is in the "cordless" mode. Or you can connect a CST or the CC to the meter via the included short PC cord, and use the meter in corded mode.

Hi TS,
Thanks for the response. I'm graduating towards the concept of getting a few CSTs to use as actual on-camera transmitters and keeping the CC off-camera for metering and light management.

Back to the original topic, one of the useful aspects of the L-758DR is the ability to make combined ambient/flash measurements. I think I'm going to mess around with Velcro'ing the CC to the back of my L-758 and using the shortie sync cable that comes with the CC to have the L-758DR fire the CC.

If you literally want combined flash + ambient. that's what Cyber Commander (or just about any other flash meter gives you.

Hi Paul,
I think the difference is that what we are looking for is the meter to display the ratio of ambient to flash in meter. There are multiple uses for this, including fill flash computation as well as being able to view the ratio of background (i.e. ambient) to foreground (i.e. flash) for outdoor work.

The L-758DR makes this a snap, we (i.e. "I") am looking for the most convenient way to have the L-758DR trigger a CyberSync system. Right now it looks like Velcro'ing a CyberSync transmitter to the back of the L-758DR and using the shortie sync cable that comes with the transmitter will be most convenient for me.

You can do that with a CC, but you'll have to d some pesky calculations.
