I received a conformation on June 5th, 2009 for pre-order of 2 ABMAX... I haven't been given a number yet, or even contacted about it. A friend pre-ordered the same, except 4, and at around the same time and his are on the way...

I got the paras that I ordered in the pre-order, and as I couldn't wait forever for the lights, ordered some 1600 WL's in the meantime... did that cancel out my pre-order somehow?

You should probably give them a call or email them so they can find out. This is a tech forum so they don't always handle ordering info here...

Rick and Mystic,
As Kenyee stated, this is a tech forum, and i am unable to answer these questions. However, I will make Customer Service aware of these issues. In the future, anyone with non-tech questions should send those to the Customer Service email, or telephone in for the fastest response.

Dear TS......

Sorry to beat this horse, but can you please pass this on to Customer Support.

It is an email I sent them, to which they have not replied.........

Quote:
.Greetings from Downunder,

There seems to be some confusion in Australia as to when we will actually be
receiving our Einstein products.

Some believe that you have said that we will not be receiving them until all
US orders are fulfilled, thus negating our pre-orders and leaving us hanging
on for another two - three months.

However, your President and CEO has said that we will be served in
order-number order..............

You'll have to take up the time issue with customer service - I don't know
what position the AU orders are on the list.

They are being processed in the order received.

Can you please give a definitive response, was Mr Buff correct and we are
getting them in order-number, or were these words "less then correct" and we
have been pushed to the bottom of the list ?

Many thanks,

AB

Well, when I called I think the girl told me I was #1500 or something like that and we both had a good laugh at it. Oh well :)

So, any suggestions as to what stands to buy/use?

I have nothing so far and I also need softboxes.

Can I go with other (cheapo) softboxes or is there anything that keeps me from doing that?

IF I can, what rings do they have to fit?

Also, any tips on what to look for in a stand?

Thanks

George

George,

I'd say look for something that is solid (large diameter, low play) and air-cushioned.

Don't go by the height - the ones that just barely reach your desired max height will tend to be far too flimsy for it.

I use Manfrotto 1004BAC - they are really strong, fold flat and you can lock 3 or 4 of them together and carry as a unit due to a clever design, as opposed to the loose stands banging and scratching each other.

Set of 3 stands

Bag

They also sell 110mm heavy casters for these if you need.

Alphabug,
I cannot say as i am not in Customer Service (at least not in the sales part). Please email customer service, they should be able to answer your question with more accuracy than i can.

+1 on the 1004BAC's. Damned good stands. Took 'em a while, but Manfrotto actually got the 'stacker' design right this time around. The basic 367B's are pretty good too and about half the price & max load, depending on your intended use, but do not fold flat.

Well, first, thanks for the replies guys and I just realized I was hogging this thread which sucks so please, respond to me in PM after this.

Not sure if I can afford 100 bucks a pop for the stands. Anything else?
Come to think of it, I only need two so nevermind (I was thinking two for the flashes and two for the softboxes, duh! I'm such a moron. Yes, it HAS been a long time since I used studio lights :)

Still, just for good measure. Anything else cheaper that's decent?

Also, what do I need to look for in softboxes to make sure they FIT on the einstein. Damn softboxes are a little out of my price range and I'm sure they're much better but still, a little more than I can justify spending right now.

Thanks and please, PM me any replies.

George
