It has got to be tough to accommodate a wide variety of hotshoes.... the CST is just right on my 5Dii. It is tight enough that I'm confident it won't fall off but not so tight that it is a problem.

That's the problem, a universal device needs to make certain one size will fit "all."
A loose fitting CST with a locking nut to tighten the contact down to any sized hotshoe would solve the problem. Many hotshoe flashes use this system and it works fine.

I used a file on the foot of my 1st CC b/c it fit so tight in the D700's mount. Just go slow and stay away from the center of the foot.

Thanks, yep, already considered this. I'm thinking of trying a nail file and doing exactly what you said, "go slow."
I assume you meant CST as the Cyber Commander on the other hand has a much better foot imo and fits comfortably with more give in the contact.
:)

I really did mean the CC. The first one I had was a too tight, but the replacement slips right in. Could have been a slight variance in the mold, or properties of the plastic.

I have a D3x for studio use and although it is solid not poly carb like the F90x, I sure don't like having to force and jiggle the thing into place every time.

I agree that it is a tight fit, I was having the same issue with my D3 when I first tried to put the CST on the hot shoe. It still is pretty tight, but I can get it off much easier now. One thing that helped me a little was to just push the little metal ball on the contact of the CST up and down on a flat service(table) a bunch of times. I think the spring tension is as much a problem as the width of the base, if not more. I never had much trouble at all sliding the Cyber Commander on the D3, but I do prefer the CST on my main camera. My CST is still pretty tight, but comes of with just a little wiggle now.

I ended up doing exactly the same, table trick and all. The result is precisely what you have described with the D3. D3 and D3x would likely have an identical hotshoe size and appears our CST's are identical in size/spring tension. It is tight but a firm push with the thumb at the base to get it on and a little wiggle to get it off.

What's up with the redesign (external antenna) of the CC already? Anyone know what kind of benefits rangewise vs the original internal antenna ver?

Wish I waited for the new version because I use it 99% off camera, and the built in lanyard loop at the top would have been great for me. :(

Ok, I missed something. When and why did they change the Cyber Commander?

Is this a hardware change to the Cyber Commander?
