Hi,
My CC keeps folding down parallel to the ground if I make a quick move, sometimes even if I don't make a move, it just decides to flop down. In the process, it sometimes works itself out of the hot shoe. Is there an easy way for me to tighten what seems to be a metal cog hitting the plastic gear, without voiding the warranty, or sending it back?
Thanks

Hey Stan

After looking at this for a bit, reading here, contacting tech support, my feeling on this is the following.

It's a weak point in design (probably the worst of the unit) are they going to address it in next-gen units? One can only speculate. For the time being, here is my take.

I pray every time I take the unit on or off the shot so as to not wear the material down that makes the 'seat itself on the shoe. I dread it becoming sloppy. (this is the shoe part). In as much as the joint itself that swivels fore and aft.. I took a piece of double sided think foam tape and cut a small rectangle that equaled the footprint were the top of the swivel meets the underside of the Commander.

Cleaned with an alcohol to ensure a good take and applied.

It appear to be strong enough for most situations. And the foam gives it just that tiny bit of give should I knock it.

I have NO IDEA what Buff's people were thinking when the used a ball bearing/ratchet joint here, Or why they felt a joint here was needed..

So some 2 sided thin foam tape cut to spec should solve your issue cheaply and for the time being.

Just my 2 cents.

If there is zero resistance going down, then it will need to come in. However, it is normal to have more resistance on the way up than on the way down, and sudden movements will cause the CC to return to the flat orientation.

Same here. The ratchet is actually a tiny plastic piece that got bent away a little and won't hold any longer. But my CC if out of warranty by now I think.

There is a two year warranty on them, and they have only been out for 28 months or so. I would bet it is still under warranty.

Ok, cool. I thought it's 1 year.
