Can the barn doors be used with the gel filter holders at the same time? I realize that the gel holders might need to be trimmed in order to fit.

There is no reason you cannot use the gels with barndoors if you can get them to fit. However, it may just be simpler to use the main frame that allows direct attachment of a grid+gels+barndoors or snoot. Also, it is vented for better airflow than the standard reflector.
