Post subject:  Foldable Giant Softbox

Hi,

I have a Paul C. Buff Foldable Giant Softbox on White Lightning. The combination seems to be too heavy for the Paul C. Buff 13-foot heavy-duty light stand. The light stand does not hold the softbox in vertical position. It slowly tilts downward. I tried adding another washer on the position handle but it doesn't help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

The problem cannot exist in the stand, as the stand does not pivot. If the lights is swiveling under weight, it is the stand mount of the light which is not holding. Make sure your light has (in this order) the handle, silver Belleville washer (convex shaped washer, with the dome pointing to the handle), the L bracket, neoprene washer (older ones were leather, and need to be replaced), mounting block.

If any of these are missing, out of order, or out dated, give customer service a call or email them.

I have all the parts. I just got the light last week so all the parts are new. I have the parts mounted in the exact order as you describe but the light still pivots downward slowly. Any thing else i can do?

Apologies if you are already doing this, but just in case: push the button at the pivot axis of the tightening crank--this disengages it from the gear teeth and lets you reposition backwards so you can then tighten it even more.

BDP brings up a good point. Make sure you are repositioning the handle to ensure a tight fit. Once a tight fit is found, reposition the handle to the back (turning clockwise). When you need to loosen the stand mount, turning all the way counter clockwise should loosen it enough so that it will not need to be repositioned.
