Post subject: | 'Snap' button on Octabox came off |
I was at a shoot a couple weekends ago and when I was attaching the inside diffusion panel on my 47" octabox, I realized the female end of the 'snap' button came off one of the straps on the octabox and was still stuck to the male end on the diffuser. Obviously, the diffuser panel was still usable. What exactly is this type of 'snap' button/fastener called? I was going to go to the fabric/crafts store to get a new one. |

Sorry, I dont know any particular size/type nomenclature. However, it appears that box is still under warranty. Give CS a call, and they will let you know how to get it fixed under teh warranty. |

I'll consider calling in if I can't fix it on my own, but I think it's not worth the cost of shipping back and forth. I'd rather try putting on a new button. Normal: ![]() Broken (male end came off the strap): ![]() Worst case I just use a clip (like a butterfly clip for papers) just to hold this end on if I can't find the button at the local crafts store. |

I'm not totally sure but I think these are called "No Sew Snaps". I think they come in different sizes so if you can it might be best to take the broken one to the store to compare. Good luck! |

You will also need a special tool to apply the snaps, usually you can get the tool and a small supply of the snaps packages together, like this: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?pageName=search&flag=true&PRODID=prd34657 |

I haven't had a chance this week to head to the store. Was going to actually head to the Joann's during lunch. Thanks for the link. |

Not to be simplistic, but a safety pin will solve things easily. Fabric products always wear out over time. Remember all the housewives that sewed buttons back on when they came off? They sure didn't have the option of sending the shirt back to the manufacturer. |

I just got my Octabox yesterday and the same thing happened to me! These snaps are not robust at all! I wish they would switch to velcro! I would probably look elsewhere in the future for light modifiers. Love my Einstein though! |
